Autism Acceptance Week ’24

Last week we celebrated our Autism Acceptance week! Autism Acceptance Week, often observed in April, is a time dedicated to promoting acceptance, understanding, and inclusion of individuals on the autism spectrum.

During Autism Acceptance Week, our school community came together to:

  1. Educate: We engaged in educational activities and discussions to increase understanding and dispel myths and misconceptions about autism. All our children read a series of different books that explain Autism and the super powers that come with Autism! We also made our own posters and talked about our favourite things!
  2. Celebrate: We celebrated the accomplishments of all our learners. Whether it’s academic achievements, artistic talents, independent life skills or unique insights, we recognize and honour the strengths of every individual!
  3. Support: We offer support and resources to individuals with autism and their families, ensuring they have access to the necessary tools and accommodations to succeed. By providing a nurturing and inclusive environment, we empower all students to reach their full potential. During our Autism Acceptance week, we held a very successful Autism Families workshop, where we shared facts about Autism and strategies to support your children at home. I hope you all enjoyed it!
  4. Last but not least, we are holding our own Orchards Fundraiser “Walk for Autism”. All the moneys will go towards buying ASD and sensory resources for all our learners! Don’t forget to send us pictures from your walks and contribute, the fundraiser will be open until the 30th April (through ParentPay).

As we reflect on Autism Acceptance Week, let us continue to prioritise acceptance, understanding, and inclusion in our school community and beyond. Together, we can create a world where everyone is valued and celebrated for who they are.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating Autism Acceptance Week!
