PE Premium

At The Orchards School, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive physically, emotionally, and socially. Our approach to physical education (PE) is entirely child-led, ensuring that all our pupils can access engaging and purposeful activities. The PE Premium funding plays a key role in helping us to deliver a curriculum that is fully inclusive and tailored to the individual needs of each child.

How We Use PE Premium Funding

We use our PE Premium funding to enhance the physical education opportunities for our pupils, ensuring that every child has the chance to engage in activities that support their physical development, improve their wellbeing, and foster a sense of confidence. Specifically, the funding is used to support the following activities:

  • Rebound Therapy
Rebound Therapy, or trampolining, offers a fun and therapeutic way for pupils to develop their physical skills and improve their sensory processing. With the PE Premium funding, we are able to offer 1:1 and small group Rebound Therapy sessions, focusing on improving coordination, balance, motor skills, and emotional regulation. These sessions are carefully tailored to each pupil’s needs and provide an enjoyable, child-led experience.
  • Splash Sessions
Splash sessions provide a calming and therapeutic environment for our pupils to work on their physical development in the water. Every pupil has access to hydrotherapy or swimming lessons, helping to improve water safety skills, coordination, and mobility. These sessions are a vital part of our child-focused approach, offering both physical and emotional benefits, such as relaxation and sensory regulation. • Inclusive PE Sessions
Our PE curriculum is designed to be inclusive and responsive to the needs of our pupils. Each class takes part in weekly PE sessions, which include a wide range of physical activities from adaptive sports to sensory and physical development sessions. The funding allows us to bring in specialist instructors and PE staff who work closely with the pupils, ensuring that each session is both engaging and developmentally appropriate.
  • Sports Week & Community Engagement
Every year, we host an exciting and inclusive Sports Week where pupils are encouraged to participate in a variety of sports, both competitive and non-competitive. This is an opportunity for pupils to develop teamwork, social skills, and confidence in a fun, supportive environment. The PE Premium allows us to organise these activities and invite parents and the local community to join us, reinforcing our child-led approach and helping to foster a sense of community and belonging.

Impact of PE Premium

The use of PE Premium funding has had a significant impact on the physical, emotional, and social development of our pupils. Through activities like Rebound Therapy and Splash, pupils are not only improving their physical skills but also gaining confidence, improving their mental wellbeing, and developing important life skills. The child-led nature of our PE curriculum ensures that every pupil’s voice is heard, and each session is shaped to meet their individual needs.

We track progress through regular assessments, feedback from pupils, and teacher observations, ensuring that each child is making meaningful progress in their physical development. Pupils are more confident in their abilities, they are socialising more with their peers, and their ability to regulate their emotions has improved.

Looking Ahead

We will continue to use the PE Premium funding in a way that is flexible and responsive to the needs of our pupils. With a continued focus on child-led activities, we aim to create an environment where all pupils feel empowered and supported to reach their full potential in physical education.

By continually evaluating the effectiveness of our PE provision, we will ensure that the funding remains focused on activities that make the most positive difference for our children’s physical and emotional development.
